Authorities in Bergen County reported the arrest of William Clark,38, of Hawthorne, on a charge of vehicular homicide.

Officials stated the arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Fair Lawn Police under the direction of Chief Glen Cauwels.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that on Thursday, October 5, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Fair Lawn Police received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Wagaraw Road near the intersection of Maple Avenue and River Road.

According to officials, responding Officers determined that a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck operated by William Clark was traveling south on Wagaraw Road when it crossed over the double yellow line into the northbound lane, striking a motorcycle traveling south on Wagaraw Road.

The motorcycle then struck a utility pole, officials said.

The driver of the motorcycle, officials say, identified as 33-year-old Harold M. Almonte of Hawthorne, was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities say Clark was suspected of operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, William Clark was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide resulting in the death of another while in violation of driving while intoxicated, officials said.

Officials say he was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses.

According to officials, Clark was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
