NJ Juvenile Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting

Authorities in Middlesex County announced that a 17-year-old and 16-year-old male have been charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses which, if committed by an adult, would constitute Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Conspiracy.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone stated that on March 31, at approximately 6:34 p.m., authorities were notified regarding a report of a shooting in the area of Lee Avenue and Rutgers Street.

The victim was transported to Robert Wood Hospital for treatment by people that were involved in the incident, MCPO officials say. 

According to Middlesex County officials, upon their arrival, officers located the victim, a 16-year-old male of New Brunswick, who sustained gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital, MCPO authorities said. 

Middlesex County officials stated that an investigation led by Detective Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that a 17-year-old male from New Brunswick and a 16-year-old male from New Brunswick were the perpetrators.

The 17-year-old male was taken into custody and arrested on April 3, New Brunswick Police said.

Middlesex County officials said the 17-year-old juvenile is currently being housed at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center, awaiting a preliminary hearing before a Family Court Judge.
