Authorities in Middlesex County announced an ongoing investigation into the critical injuries sustained by a 6-week-old infant.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone stated that on January 21, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m., authorities received a 911 distress call at a residence on Clauss Street for an infant with facial and head injuries.

The baby was transported to Saint Peter's Hospital for treatment, where he has remained in critical condition, Carteret Police said.  Ad

According to MCPO officials, an investigation led by Detective William Cox of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the infant’s injuries occurred while the child was in the custody of his father, Ezekiel Crespo, 20, of Carteret.

Middlesex County authorities stated that on January 22, 2025, Crespo was charged with second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and first-degree Attempted Murder.

Crespo is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending the results of a Pre-Trial Detention hearing, County officials say.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Cox of the Carteret Police Department at 732-745-3652 or Detective Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-8083.
