A report of a student with a weapon inside the Ivy Hill Elementary School has Police and the Essex County Sheriff's bomb and weapons sniffing dog unit on the scene at this time.
School officials reached out to parents shortly before noon informing them of the school wide lock down after they received information that a student may have brought a weapon into the building.
The student, (only being identified as a six grader) reportedly displayed the weapon under his shirt to another student who then contacted school administrators at around 9:30 a.m.
School officials immediately took action by contacting authorities.
Parents were allowed to sign students out of the building as authorities and school administrators contacted the boy's parents.
Authorities searched the building and did not find a weapon.
An emergency parent meeting is being held at the school on Wednesday at 5 p.m. according to parents.
