A Newark resident was apprehended and charged in connection with the theft of several hundred dollars worth of merchandise from a Bloomfield department store, according to a statement released by police.
Officers were dispatched to the Marshalls located at 8-12 Franklin Street following reports of a shoplifting incident.
Upon arrival, they were informed by the store’s loss prevention officer that a woman had filled a suitcase with various clothing items and attempted to exit without making a purchase.
Police said the merchandise had a total value of $413.86.
The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Ms. Bryanna Silva of Newark, was intercepted by the loss prevention officer before she could leave the premises.
Silva is a suspected serial shoplifter in the area and has faced multiple charges for this offense.
Responding officers placed Silva under arrest and transported her to Bloomfield Police Headquarters, where she was processed accordingly.
