Authorities have arrested two Newark women in connection with a tragic collision that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Jersey City last fall.

According to a statement released by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit took 47-year-old Shaneeka Croom and 65-year-old Elnoria Croom-Lundy into custody on Tuesday, April 1.
The charges stem from a deadly crash that occurred on the morning of Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Around 8:55 a.m. that day, Jersey City police officers responded to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a GMC vehicle near the intersection of Sip Avenue and Routes 1&9.
First responders discovered the rider, later identified as 43-year-old Steven Brown of Jersey City (pictured), suffering critical injuries.
Brown was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10 a.m.
Initial reports provided to police at the scene suggested Shaneeka Croom had been a passenger in the GMC.
Elnoria Croom-Lundy claimed she had been behind the wheel. However, after a thorough investigation, officials determined that Croom had in fact been driving the vehicle at the time of the crash and that Croom-Lundy was not present during the incident.
As a result, Shaneeka Croom faces multiple charges, including causing death while driving with a suspended license, filing a false report, obstruction, and hindering apprehension.
Elnoria Croom-Lundy has also been charged with obstruction and hindering.

Both women were processed at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and released pending their first appearances in court.
The investigation remains active as officials continue to gather more details surrounding the deadly collision.
