Newark West Ward Shooting Injures Male

Police in Newark are looking for a shooter who fired a gun in a West Ward neighborhood that struck a male Tuesday night. 

A ShotSpotter device was activated in the area of Mountainview and Chelsea avenues shortly before 9:20 p.m. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found several shell casings, but no victim was located after cops canvassed the scene. 

While police searched the area, University Hospital officials notified law enforcement that a male victim entered the emergency room suffering bullet wounds. 

Police confirmed that the victim was injured in the West Ward shooting. 

The suspect fled the scene and has not been captured. 

Tuesday's shooting makes it three people suffering gunshot wounds in about 24 hours in the city. 

Circumstances surrounding these shootings are under investigation.   

No arrests were reported.
