Newark Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault on Student

Newark

Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Newark Arts High School music teacher Jaime Rodriguez, 33, of North Bergen has been charged with three counts of sexual assault.

It is alleged that between Jan. 1 and April 27 the teacher engaged in various sexual acts, while on school property during the school day, with a 17-year-old female student.

Rodriguez, who has been a teacher at Arts High School for nearly four years, is charged with three counts of second degree sexual assault. Bail was set at $200,000, no ten percent alternative.

Rodriguez is scheduled to make his first court appearance tomorrow at the Veterans Court House, in Central Judicial Processing.

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
