Police in Newark West Ward reported no injuries in a shot-fired incident overnight.
Just before midnight, a ShotSpotter device activated and alerted police of a shooting in the '70s block of Sunset Avenue.
When police arrived at the scene, they found shell casings in the area, according to preliminary reports.
Residents said they heard several individuals engaged in a commotion then several gunshots rang out.
Police have not reported an arrest or motive in the West Ward shooting at this time.
