Newark South Ward Shots Fired Incident Under Investigation

Newark Police have initiated an investigation following a shooting incident in the city's South Ward on Sunday night.Fitness

Triggered by a ShotSpotter alert around 9:10 p.m. near Scheerer Avenue, officers were quickly dispatched to the location. 

Upon arrival, police discovered shell casings but found no victims.

During the investigation, a male suspect was detained in the 100 block of Renner Avenue after he was seen running from the scene shortly after the gunfire.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the detained individual is the shooter.

The Newark Shooting Response Unit has been brought in to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as detectives continue to gather evidence and information to determine the circumstances of the incident.
