Police notified hospitals in the region to be on the lookout for potential walk-in gunshot victims after a shots fired incident in Newark's South Ward.
It happened on Wednesday evening around 6 p.m. where gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 407 Hunterdon Street.
Police say a gunman arrived in the area and began firing at unknown targets before fleeing the scene.
Officers arrived at the scene and found shell casings and other evidence that confirmed the shooting.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
