A fatal overnight shooting in Newark is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of Shaw and Dewey Street shortly before midnight. Officers canvasing the area reportedly located a male victim suffering apparent gunshot wounds in the area of Shaw and Hobson.
Authorities said that the victim was pronounced dead a short time after they located him.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
