Early Saturday morning, residents in Newark's South Ward were startled awake by the sound of gunfire in their community.Newark Police were promptly dispatched to the vicinity of 413 Hawthorne Avenue around 2:55 a.m., following reports of multiple rounds being fired within the neighborhood.
Upon arrival, law enforcement units discovered shell casings at the scene, indicating the occurrence of a shooting. However, a thorough search of the vicinity initially did not reveal any injuries related to the incident.
The area around Hawthorne Avenue was quickly cordoned off as police began their investigation into the early morning disturbance.No arrests have been made in connection with the gunfire. Newark Police are actively seeking information and are working to determine the circumstances that led to this shooting in the South Ward.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in their inquiries.
