Newark –Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from Newark, is investigating the fatal shooting of Ramel McGrady, 23, of East Orange.
Around 6 p.m. yesterday Newark Police responded to a call of shooting in the vicinity of 89 Oration. When they arrived on the scene they discovered McGrady suffering from a gun shot wound. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:38 p.m.
A second victim was found a couple of blocks away. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made. The motive is still under investigation.
