Police reported property damage at the scene of a shooting in a Newark South Ward neighborhood Thursday evening.
It happened around 6 p.m. in the 80's block of Shephard Avenue.
Police were dispatched to the neighborhood after a ShotSpotter device detected multiple rounds of gunfire.
Several police officers canvassed the neighborhood for the exact shooting location and found shell casings near 80 Shephard Avenue.
According to witnesses, bullets struck at least one car and a building after a gunman fired multiple rounds in the community and then fled the scene in a vehicle.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
