Rahjon Cox, known as "Tsu Surf," a 32-year-old member of the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips gang, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison.
The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger following Cox's guilty plea in a case involving racketeering conspiracy and illegal firearms possession.
U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton, who presided over the case, delivered the sentence today in Newark federal court. Cox, hailing from Newark, had previously admitted to two counts in a superseding indictment, acknowledging his involvement in a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy and possession of firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Court documents and statements made during the trial revealed Cox's criminal activities.
From 2015 through September 22, 2022, he actively participated in the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips. This criminal enterprise, based in New Jersey, engaged in violent acts and distributed controlled substances both locally and in other areas.
Cox held a leadership position within the gang and was directly involved in violent confrontations, including shooting at a gang rival in 2017.
Furthermore, in 2019, he was found in possession of two loaded firearms in Essex County despite his status as a convicted felon.
Beyond the five-year prison sentence, Judge Wigenton has also mandated a three-year period of supervised release for Cox and imposed a fine of $15,000.
This case underlines the ongoing efforts of federal law enforcement to dismantle criminal organizations and address the illegal possession and use of firearms.
