Newark Pursuit Ends in Crash, Arrest in Irvington

Police took one person into custody after a pursuit that began in Newark and ended in a crash in Irvington.

Newark Police were attempting to stop a vehicle that was occupied by a suspect who was wanted for a shooting in the city when the suspect ignored officers and sped off from the area of Melrose and Grove Terrace at around 10:45 a.m. according to reports.

The vehicle entered the Township of Irvington where it crashed in the area of Lenox Avenue and Adams Street with the suspect bailing out of the vehicle.

Police were able to apprehend the suspect after a brief foot pursuit in the 30's block of Lenox Avenue.

EMS treated the suspect for shortness of breath, and fatigue reports said.

Police searched the area for a weapon, but it is not immediately clear if one was ever found.

The crash caused damaged to several cars, but there were no other injuries reported.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
