Newark Police Steps Up Enforcement on Broad and Market Streets

Newark

Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced the arrest results during two-weeks of heightened police activity at Broad and Market Street in response to citizen and business complaints.

“The public are our eyes and ears in the community,” Ambrose said. “I’m encouraged by the increasing community desire to partner with us to keep the city safe."

According to a statement released by officials, in the first two weeks of June, Newark police made 67 arrests and confiscated nearly $3,000 in drug proceeds, according to reports.

Police also wrote 142 moving violations, handed out 1,818 parking tickets and had 63 cars towed.

“People ignoring our parking rules and restrictions adds to the congestion of the area,” Ambrose said. “We have rules for a reason.”

Police also made 93 quality of life arrests for things such as public intoxication, officials say. Many of the arrests began with citizen awareness of criminal behavior according to officials.
