Authorities in Newark seek the public’s assistance in identifying the male suspect in connection with a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, June 19.Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said at approximately 3:23 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of Orange Street on a call of an armed robbery.
The suspect attempted to snatch a woman’s purse, officials said, and when the victim resisted, the suspect brandished a handgun.
According to officials, the victim then surrendered her purse, and the suspect fled westbound on Orange Street towards East Orange.
The same suspect committed a second armed robbery of a female victim at 12:15 a.m. today, June 20, 2024, at Roseville Avenue near Orange Street, officials stated.
In this incident, officials say, the suspect was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and fled into East Orange, first using a bicycle, then on foot.
Authorities say the bicycle and weapon were recovered by Police.
Detectives investigating these incidents seek the public’s help in quickly identifying this suspect, officials said.
Officials say he is described as a 5’8” tall, thin-built African American with a dark complexion, a goatee, and dreadlocks or braids in his hair.He was wearing a yellow shirt with a dinosaur logo on the front, black sweatpants with stripes on the sides, and black and gray sneakers, according to officials.
