Authorities in Newark request the public’s help with identifying the suspect who robbed a victim of his phone on October 20, 2023. Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said police responded to the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:02 p.m. in the 600 block of Broad Street.
The victim was sitting at a bus stop when the suspect snatched his phone and ran north on Broad Street, officials stated.
According to officials, an altercation ensued after the victim chased the suspect, who then ran onto a bus stopped on Broad Street.
The victim followed the suspect onto the bus, but the suspect threw the phone out of the window to his friends, officials said.
The suspect ran off the bus, officials said, retrieved the phone from his friends, and fled into the Newark Light Rail Station at Broad Street and Raymond Boulevard.
Authorities say the suspect, a Black male, is described as 5’5” and approximately 16 to 18 years old.
He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and a black ski mask and had tattoos on both hands, officials say.
