Newark authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a vehicle break-in earlier this month. According to a statement released by the Newark Police Department, the incident occurred on February 5, when a male suspect was caught on surveillance footage attempting to gain access to a parked van.

The footage, recorded at approximately 3:41 p.m., shows the suspect using an object to force open the passenger door of a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard.

The suspect quickly fled the scene when a security guard confronted him.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is urging anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to come forward. Individuals can submit tips anonymously through the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

All tips remain confidential, and information leading to an arrest may qualify for a reward.
