Newark Police are reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect linked to a robbery that occurred on Sunday, September 10th.
Authorities are seeking any information that may lead to the apprehension of the individual responsible.
According to Newark Police, the incident transpired at approximately 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Springfield Avenue in the Central Ward.
According to the initial report, a man who had just disembarked from a bus was suddenly confronted by a male suspect.
Police said in a brazen act, the suspect struck the victim with a closed fist, causing him to fall to the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, the suspect rifled through the victim's pockets, ultimately making off with the victim's wallet.
The stolen items included a debit card, $30.00 in cash, and other personal belongings.
Following the robbery, the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading north on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard towards Springfield Avenue.
Authorities have provided a description of the suspect to aid in the identification process.
The individual is described as a Black male in his early twenties, standing approximately 5'7" tall, and was clean-shaven at the time of the incident.
Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is urging anyone who may have information about the identity of this suspect to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
