Newark Police Seek the Public's Help in Identifying Assault Suspects

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that police are seeking the public’s help in identifying suspects in connection with an assault that occurred on Wednesday, September 2.

According to police, at approximately 8 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Rome Street and Wilson Avenue on a call of a fight.

A male driver and his female passenger were assaulted by two males during a quarrel with the occupants of another vehicle. Both victims were transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Detectives investigating this incident obtained surveillance footage of a suspect and seek the public’s help in quickly identifying him as part of their investigation.

One of the suspects is described as a male, 5’7” tall and 150 lbs., wearing glasses and a light blue shirt and jeans.

A second suspect is also described as 5’7” tall and heavyset, wearing an orange construction shirt and blue jeans. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a black 2001 Ford van.

Director Ambrose urges anyone with information about the suspects to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
