Newark Police Search for Driver who Struck 13-Year-Old Boy, Patrol Car in Newark's West Ward

EMS treated a 13-year-old boy for non-life threatening injuries after the driver of a car struck the boy then hit a police car before he fled the scene in Newark's West Ward overnight.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose seeking the public’s help in locating the driver of a brown 2015 Honda Civic, with a NJ license plate number, "C58-ENW", wanted for aggravated assault on police officers today.

Director Ambrose said approximately 8:30 p.m., officers conducted a motor vehicle stop near South Orange and Stuyvesant avenues where they approached the vehicle, and the driver reversed striking the officers’ patrol vehicle.

The male driver then sped off striking a 13-year-old boy who complained of injuries.

Officers canvassing the area found an unoccupied vehicle in the 80's block of Norwood that fit the description but it was not immediately confirmed if it was the suspected car.

Director Ambrose said while police are actively searching for this suspect, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and identifying him.
