Police in Newark are looking into the motive behind a shooting that took place near the New Jersey Institute of Technology campus Tuesday. 
At around 5:06 p.m., Newark Public Safety officials said officers responded to the 100 block of Central Avenue following a call of shots fired.
Units arrived and cordoned off the area upon discovering shell casings. However, after a thorough search of the vicinity, no victims were found.
Witnesses described two armed male suspects seen fleeing westbound on Central Avenue.
Police said this investigation, still in its early stages, is being handled by the Newark Police Department.
