Newark Police Officer Shoots Pit Bull that Attacked After Traffic Stop

Police officials in Newark are reporting the shooting of a pit bull that attacked an officer earlier this evening.

According to police, shortly before 5:00 p.m., patrol officers attempted to stop a Jeep truck after witnessing it commit several traffic violations.

Police say they initiated a motor vehicle stop on South 14th Street when the driver drove a short distance and struck several parked cars before fleeing the truck.

During a foot pursuit, an officer shot and killed a pit bull that attempted to attack him police said.

Police say there were no other injuries reported and the investigation is on-going.

Police continue to search for the suspect who remains at-large.
