A Newark police officer sustained injuries in an altercation with an emotionally distressed individual at an Amazon warehouse in Newark's East Ward on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. inside the warehouse located on the 400 block of Delancy Street.
Workers inside the plant told RLS Media that the distressed employee was praying shortly after he began screaming and 'flipping out.' "He cut himself during the breakdown," employees said.
According to Newark Police officials, the officer, who was assisting EMS personnel with the emotionally disturbed man, suffered a cut to his forehead during the struggle.
Fortunately, the injury is reported to be non-life-threatening. Newark officials said no other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
As a result of the altercation, employees reporting for work at the warehouse were required to wait outside while the police and EMS worked to control the situation.
The distressed man involved in the incident experienced severe bleeding, but his injuries were also not considered life-threatening.
The situation caused some disruption at the facility, but authorities quickly responded and managed the incident.
