Newark Police Officer Charged With False Swearing, Making False Statements

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Newark Police Officer Wilberto Ruiz, 33, of Newark, NJ, was charged with False Swearing and Making False Statements.

The charges allege that while on duty during August, 2015, Police Officer Ruiz issued motor vehicle summonses to an individual knowing that the affirmations made in the summonses were not true.

Police Officer Ruiz was served and processed by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, February 10, 2017.

He was given an arraignment date of February 24, 2017.

These are accusations.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law.
