Late Wednesday evening, Newark police responded to reports of a shooting incident in the South Ward neighborhood.
Gunfire was reported in the vicinity of Voorhees Street and Leslie Street at approximately 9:47 p.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Upon arrival, police discovered multiple shell casings in the area, but in their thorough search, they found no reported injuries.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a white or light-colored vehicle fleeing shortly after the gunfire erupted. The activation of a ShotSpotter device helped alert the police to the incident.
As authorities investigate the incident further, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
Police are actively seeking leads and information that can help them piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident. No arrests have been reported.
