Newark Police officials are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the city's South Ward on Monday night.Around 9:35 p.m., residents were startled by gunfire in the area of Cypress Street and Fabyan Place.
This prompted an immediate police response to the neighborhood.
Upon arrival, officers found shell casings and called in the department's Shooting Response Team to assist with the investigation. Despite an extensive search of the area, no victims were located at the scene.
As a precaution, local hospitals have been alerted to be on the lookout for any walk-in gunshot victims in their emergency departments.
As of 10 p.m., there were no reported injuries related to this incident. However, the suspect responsible for the gunfire has fled the scene and remains at large.
Newark Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation as they work to ensure the security of this South Ward community.
