Newark Police were dispatched to the West Ward late Monday night following a ShotSpotter alert that signaled a shooting near 22 Salem Street.Responding at approximately 11 p.m., officers discovered shell casings at the scene, indicating recent gunfire.
Despite a thorough search of the neighborhood, no victims were found, and no injuries have been reported.
The advanced technology of the ShotSpotter system, which detects and conveys the location of gunshots, was instrumental in promptly alerting the police, potentially averting further escalation.
As of now, the suspect responsible for the shooting remains at large.
