Newark Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting in South Ward

Newark Police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting in the city’s South Ward, where a gunman fired multiple rounds, prompting a search for potential victims.

Officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 31 Van Vechten Street shortly before 2:20 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings at the scene and quickly notified Newark’s Shooting Response Team to assist in the investigation.

Despite receiving reports that someone may have been struck by gunfire, police were unable to locate any gunshot victims.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large as authorities continue their search and investigation into the incident.
