City officials today confirmed that three Newark Police Department dispatchers (civilians) have been accused of not answering incoming calls and have since been suspended without pay.
According to Acting Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, compliance officers reported the dispatchers after at least one of the dispatchers was allegedly caught sleeping while on duty, and several calls assigned to those involved dispatchers were allegedly not being answered.
In efforts of improving officer response times and pickup at the department's call center the investigation was initiated.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, the names of the suspended dispatchers are being withheld.
