Police in Newark detained two females who were wanted for a broad-daylight armed carjacking at a mall in Union County Sunday afternoon.
According to Elizabeth Police, at approximately 2:27 p.m., officers were dispatched to The Jersey Gardens Mall (Mills at Jersey Gardens) to investigate a reported carjacking in progress.
Elizabeth police said upon arrival, officers learned that two black female suspects armed with handguns stole a white Honda Civic from the victim.
According to police, the suspects were followed by a blue Honda Accord with damage to the door.
Newark Police recovered the carjacked vehicle and detained two females inside it.
The pair were sitting in the vehicle inside a parking lot of the Family Dollar in Newark.
Elizabeth Police said no injuries were reported.
UPDATE 8:13 p.m.: Elizabeth Police has updated and states that the females are being investigated and no official arrests have been made.
