Newark Police Arrests Two Alleged Burglary Suspects

Newark

Detectives from the Police Division’s 5th Detective Squad arrested Mr. Iqill Edwards, 21, and Ms. Yolanda Edwards, 45, both of Newark, for separate burglaries that occurred on January 25 and February, in the South Ward.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, on January 25, detectives investigating a burglary at a residence in the 500 block of Hawthorne Avenue developed evidence that Mr. Edwards was involved and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Police said while investigating a car burglary in the 600 block of Clinton Avenue several weeks later, 5th Squad detectives discovered evidence that involved Ms. Edwards.

Director Ambrose said on Friday evening, detectives went to the Edwards' residence as part of the investigation and arrested Ms. Edwards for an outstanding warrant and burglary after officers developed information about her involvement.

According to police, Mr. Edwards attempted to run from officers, but detectives quickly apprehended and charged him with the home burglary based on additional evidence.

Police charged Mr. Edwards with receiving stolen property, eluding and two outstanding warrants.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
