Newark police officials announced that just before 2:25 p.m., on Friday, February 11, robbery detectives observed a suspect fitting the description of a person who committed an armed robbery around 9:30 a.m. that morning at Hedden Terrance and West Runyon Street.
Police said the victim had been robbed at gunpoint of his cash and cell phone after he arranged to purchase a cell phone from a male he met on Facebook.
According to police officials, Newark Detectives observed the suspect, a juvenile, and a second juvenile, attempting to sell the victim’s cell phone at a store in the 700 block of Broad Street.
Police said they also observed one of the juveniles with a handgun.
The suspect passed the handgun to a third juvenile, who fled before cops apprehended him on Edison Place.
According to officials, police recovered the handgun, and each of the three juveniles were arrested without further incident.
Officials say one suspect was charged with receiving stolen property while the two other assailants were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon (large-capacity magazine) and resisting arrest.
