Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Kayson Williams-Jones, 18, of Newark who robbed a resident at gunpoint in the South Ward on October 9.
According to police the victim, who flagged down officers, told them that he was robbed at gunpoint of his cell phone and a small amount of cash at approximately 11:40 p.m. near Clinton and Seymour avenues.
Based upon the victim’s description, the officers saw Williams-Jones wearing a black and red jacket and walking in the area of West Bigelow Street and Seymour Avenue.
Police report that they arrested him and recovered a loaded .22 caliber revolver, several cellphones, a small amount of money and narcotics. Williams-Jones had 56 envelopes containing 2.8 grams of heroin, one baggy with 1 gram of marijuana, and another with approximately .1 gram of cocaine.
He was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and narcotics offenses.
These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
