Newark

Police officials in Newark announced road safety checkpoints will be established citywide to ensure public safety during the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holidays.

Officials say police will conduct road safety checks throughout the city and will enforce the Juvenile Curfew Initiative, established to safeguard juveniles by ensuring that they remain under the supervision of a parent or guardian at night.

While parents have the primary responsibility to provide for the safety and welfare of their children, the City of Newark is committed to preserving the safety of its children and preventing juvenile crime and victimization officials said.!

Parents are advised that police will enforce the Curfew Ordinance upon unaccompanied minors under age 18 who are more than 100 yards from their residence from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day.
