Newark Police Announces 12 Violent Crime Arrests in June

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of 12 individuals arrested for violent crimes that occurred in June 2024.Ad “I fully commend the Newark Police Major Crimes Division for their ongoing commitment to successfully investigating incidents of violent crime and safely apprehending suspects,” Director Fragé said.

“Keeping our streets safe is the primary concern of the Newark Police Division,” he added.

  • Kassim Copeland, 19, of Newark, was arrested on June 2, 2024. Copeland faces charges of carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for an incident that occurred on April 27, 2024, at South 12th Street and 15th Avenue.

 

  • Quadir Shannon, 31, of Newark, was arrested on June 3, 2024. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with a May 20, 2024 incident of pointing a handgun at a victim on Palm Street near Sanford Avenue. 

 

  • A 16-year-old male from Newark was arrested on June 15, 2024. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a firearm by minors in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 11, 2024, at the 100 block of Clinton Place. 

 

  • Richard Terry, Jr., 29, of East Orange, was arrested on June 17, 2024. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with a May 19, 2024, shooting at Vermont Avenue near Plymouth Street.

 

  • Leonardo Paredes-Paucar, 48, of Kearny, was arrested on June 21, 2024, in connection with a business robbery at knife-point at a Wilson Avenue business near Merchant Street. He faces charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

 

  • Kyhiem Outler, 20, Nagee Souder Tutt, 22, and Zakhiy Loyal, 18, all of Newark, and Tasmir Pearson Tutt, 27, of Jamesburg, NJ, were each arrested on June 25, 2024, in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 16, 2024, at 14thAvenue near Newton Street. Each suspect faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, criminal mischief, and conspiracy.

 

  • Ammaj Jones, 22, of Newark, was arrested on June 25, 2024, in connection with a shooting at Chadwick Avenue and West Bigelow Street. Jones faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons prohibited from weapon possession, and unlawful possession of a handgun-prior NERA conviction.

 

  • A 17-year-old male was arrested on June 26, 2024, in connection with a shooting that occurred on June 20, 2024, in the 200 block of North 7thStreet. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a firearm by minors, and possession of prohibited weapons.

 

  • Tomirah Hines, 31, of Newark, faces a charge of robbery in connection with a May 15, 2024 incident at Pennington Street near Broad Street. Hines was arrested on July 8, 2024.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
