Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that the Fugitive Apprehension Team has arrested **Damir Daniels, 24, of Newark** for a pharmacy robbery on Friday, November 18, 2016.
Acording to Director Ambrose, at approximately 10:06 a.m., three male suspects wearing dark clothing and masks entered the St. Peter’s Pharmacy located at 15-17 Ropes Place.
One brandished a handgun and robbed a customer while the two accomplices stole several bottles of medication.
The three suspects then entered a black 2016 Nissan Altima with a temporary license plate and fled from Ropes Place onto Franklin Avenue.
Officers observed the suspected vehicle in the area of North 6th Street and attempted a motor vehicle stop Ambrose said .
The driver sped away, stopping on North 3rd Street, where the front and rear passengers fled the vehicle on foot, running in different directions where he then abandoned the car at North 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue, and then fleeing on foot.
Detectives recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun from North 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue.
As a result of their investigation, robbery detectives determined that the vehicle used by the suspects was a rental car that had been reported stolen from the area of Fabyan Place and Nye Avenue between November 17th and 18th, 2016.
During their investigation, the detectives also determined that one of the suspects, later identified as Daniels, had injured himself while running from police. He was treated for the non-life threatening injury at University Hospital, before being released.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, detectives responded to Daniels’ residence today, where he was arrested without incident.
He is charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy.
The two other suspects remain at large Ambrose said.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
