Newark

Newark police are on the search for the individual or individuals responsible for a spree of tire slashing that left over a dozen vehicles damaged in the South Ward overnight.

The vandalism occurred along Shepard Avenue, between Goodwin Avenue and Osborne Terrace, disrupting the morning for many residents/parents of school-age children who were met with slashed tires as they prepared to head out for work.

The incident is especially unfortunate as it comes at a critical time when parents in the community are gearing up for back-to-school shopping.

With the rising cost of clothing and supplies, the added burden of replacing tires—estimated to cost between $300 and $500 per vehicle—has created financial strain for many families, particularly those already struggling.

Authorities believe the suspect entered the area before 5 a.m., targeting vehicles before fleeing the scene.

While the neighborhood is equipped with several surveillance cameras, police have yet to release any images or further details of the suspect as the investigation continues.

We are learning that other neighborhoods in the immediate area were targeted, totaling over 30 cars.

Residents, many of whom were delayed and inconvenienced by the damage, are hoping for swift justice as Newark police work to identify those responsible.

Residents told RLS Media that the community remains on edge and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward to Newark Police to assist in the ongoing investigation.
