Essex County authorities are looking into an overnight shooting that left a man dead in Newark's North Ward overnight.
Police responded to several reports of shots fired that rang out in the 100 block of Parker Street at around 11 p.m. where officers arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
Medical staff pronounced the unidentified male dead a short time later.
Police recovered multiple rifle casings at the scene during their search for evidence according to reports.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office detectives arrived at the scene to take over the investigation.
The motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.
