After enjoying a warmer and beautiful weekend, Newark and the North Jersey region are gearing up for their first heatwave of the year.At 4:30 a.m., temperatures in Newark are mild at 65 degrees, while Sussex County experiences cooler weather at 57 degrees.
The National Weather Service predicts a significant rise in temperatures starting tomorrow, with highs reaching the 90s.
This shift marks the beginning of a stretch of oppressive heat expected to affect the area.
Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, a high near 89 degrees, and a light south wind that will increase to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
NWS officials said tonight will remain mostly clear with a low of around 70 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy this Monday and prepare for the hotter days ahead as the week progresses.
