Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet announced that two Newark men have been sentenced today in the murder of a 31-year old New Brunswick man who was found dead inside his car from multiple gunshot wounds on August 18, 2017.
Michael Martin aka “Maniac”, 28, and Rayshawn Riddick, 33, both from Newark were sentenced today by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves to 40 years in a New Jersey State prison for the murder of 31-year-old, Hakim Williams, of New Brunswick.
These terms are subject to the No Early Release Act. As such, the defendants will have to serve 85 percent of their prison terms before becoming eligible for parole. Riddick was also sentenced today to a 5-year concurrent prison term on an unrelated drug charge.
The sentences were imposed after Martin and Riddick were found guilty by a jury on July 23, 2019, of first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree.
During a trial that began on June 11, 2019, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Bina Desai and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Anny Lopez presented evidence and testimony showing that the two men conspired to kill Mr. Williams. On August 18, 2017, Martin and Riddick lured the victim to New Brunswick in order to commit the murder.
New Brunswick Police arrived to find the victim, Hakim Williams, deceased inside his car on Fulton Street. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
