Newark Men Apprehended for Gun Crimes in Newark

Suspects who were wanted for gun related crimes in the city had cops take two men in custody on Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, Newark residents, Anthony Johnson, 21 and Marcus Taylor, 30, were arrested early yesterday morning after being sought for gun related crimes by Criminal Investigative Detectives.

Police said, Anthony Johnson was wanted for shooting a 19-yer-old male in the Millard E. Terrell Homes public housing complex on July 11th.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital shortly after being shot authorities said.

Authorities said on June 27th, Marcus Taylor fled the 900 block of Bergen Street after pointing a gun at a 31-year-old female during a domestic related dispute.

Criminal Investigative Bureau Detectives obtained warrants for the suspects after gathering sufficient evidence during the investigation.

Fugitive Detectives immediately initiated a search after obtaining the warrants.

Taylor attempted to hide a gun after detectives entered the Osborne Terrace apartment where he was sleeping. Detectives confiscated the gun and arrested him without incident.

FAT detectives located Johnson in a Westbrook Avenue home. When detectives arrived, they apprehended Johnson as he was attempting to escape through a rear door authorities said.

Taylor and Johnson were charged with possession of a handgun, aggravated assault and possession of the handgun for unlawful purposes.

Taylor was additionally charged with terroristic threats and identical gun related charges stemming for the gun found in his possession at the time of arrest authorities said.
