Authorities have arrested four men following an extensive investigation into a drive-by shooting that took place in Hackensack last summer.

According to a statement from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the arrests follow a months-long probe led by the office’s Special Investigations Squad and the Hackensack Police Department.

The investigation was launched after reports of gunfire in the area of Newman Street on June 25, 2024.

Officials later determined that the shooting had occurred the day before, when multiple suspects in two vehicles opened fire on a crowd.

A parked car was struck by bullets, but no injuries were reported.

Detectives eventually identified the two suspect vehicles and linked them to four individuals: Quayyan R. Horton, 36, of Jersey City; Mr. Charles E. Kirkland, 36, of Newark; Mr.Nafee A. Horton, 33, of Newark; and Mr. Hakeem J. Jones, 30, of East Orange.

On February 14, 2025, authorities arrested Horton, Kirkland, and Nafee Horton at separate residences in Jersey City and Newark.

Search warrants were executed at their homes, leading to the discovery of an illegal firearm at Quayyan Horton’s residence.

All three men were booked into the Bergen County Jail. Days later, on February 19, authorities served charges to Jones, who was already in custody at the Essex County Jail on an unrelated matter.
