Police in Newark reports that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Mr. Joanisson DeSouza, 31, of Newark, on charges of aggravated assault, criminal mischief and weapon possession under domestic violence laws in an incident that occurred yesterday.
Police say approximately 11 a.m., police responded to University Hospital on a call that a pregnant woman had been assaulted by a man she knows.
The victim was treated for her injuries and delivered prematurely, but the infant was pronounced deceased.
Detectives investigating this incident identified Joanisson DeSouza as a suspect in this incident and have obtained a warrant for his arrest.
DeSouza is described as 5’6” tall and 155 lbs. He has a light complexion, brown hair and brown eyes.
While police are actively searching for DeSouza, we seek the public’s help in quickly locating him as part of this investigation.
