Quayon Moore, 25, of Newark, was sentenced to 131 months in federal prison for committing an armed robbery in Essex County, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger The sentencing took place today in Newark federal court, with U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz presiding.
Moore had previously pleaded guilty to charges of Hobbs Act robbery and the use and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence. These charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on December 8, 2021.
According to court documents and statements made during the trial, Moore entered a store in Essex County, brandished a firearm at an employee, and demanded all valuables. Moore then fired the gun, narrowly missing the employee as the bullet struck the wall behind him.
While continuing to threaten the employee with the firearm, Moore proceeded to steal money from the cash register and an iPhone.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Farbiarz ordered Moore to serve five years of supervised release following his incarceration.He was also ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution to the victims of the robbery.
This sentencing marks a conclusion to the case, which involved a dangerous and violent crime in Essex County.
