A 25-year-old Newark man admitted fatally shooting a 28-year-old city man last year.
Dashawn Gibson pleaded guilty Friday in connection with killing of Altariq Davis on March 20, 2014.
On that day, police responded to the 200 block of South 6th Street for a report of a shooting, sometime around 8:30 p.m. Davis was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 9 p.m.
Under a plea agreement, a seven-year prison sentence was recommended by prosecutors, of which he must serve nearly six years before becoming eligible for parole. Also as part of the plea agreement, the murder charge was downgraded to reckless manslaughter while the remaining charges will be dismissed.
Gibson’s sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 8.
