A tragic accident in Paterson has left a 51-year-old Newark man dead after being struck by a police officer.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi, the incident occurred on October 21, 2024, at approximately 6:49 p.m. as the officer was exiting the Paterson Police Department parking lot on Memorial Drive.
The officer remained at the scene and attempted to provide aid to the victim, who suffered injuries to his arm and head.
The victim was transported to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has launched an active investigation into the incident.
Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office or the Paterson Police Detective Bureau.
